The ISCAR 6003218 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the PENTA series, designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert carries the IC908 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, delivering hardness and heat resistance across a wide range of workpiece materials. It features a 2 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 6 mm, with a neutral hand orientation and a 0.20 mm corner radius. Machinists and toolroom technicians install this insert into compatible PENTA-style toolholders for precision grooving where consistent chip control and dimensional accuracy are required.
This insert is suited for universal workpiece material applications, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S. That range includes steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys. Typical install scenarios include production turning on both horizontal and vertical CNC lathes where repeatable groove width and depth tolerances are critical. The J-type chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation in moderate to high-feed grooving passes. This insert is a single-use, non-multi-use cutting edge geometry intended for dedicated grooving applications.
Designed for use in PENTA-series toolholders accepting the 24N200J020 insert size. Compatible workpiece material grades include C1, C2, C6, and C7. Conforms to ISO 13399 for integration with tool management and presetting systems.
Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom technicians on CNC turning equipment. Power down the machine and confirm the spindle is fully stopped before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct ISCAR PENTA-series clamp and torque wrench per the toolholder manufacturer specifications — do not overtighten the clamp screw by hand. Verify insert seating and clamping force before resuming cutting operations.
