The ISCAR 6003121 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the PENTA series, designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries an IC908 grade with a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, delivering strong wear resistance and thermal stability across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert has a neutral hand orientation, a cutting width of 2.22 mm (0.0874 inches), and a maximum depth of cut of 3.50 mm (0.1378 inches). A corner radius of 0.15 mm (0.0059 inches) is built into the geometry. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for grooving applications on materials classified under ISO material groups H, K, M, P, and S, making it a versatile choice for steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature superalloys. It is intended for use in PENTA-compatible toolholders on production turning equipment where consistent groove geometry and tool life are critical. The J chip breaker geometry is engineered to control chip flow in moderate-to-deep grooving passes within the 3.00 mm to 4.00 mm depth-of-cut range.
Designed for use in ISCAR PENTA-series toolholders accepting the 24N insert seat size. Compatible with workpiece material grades C1, C2, C6, and C7. Conforms to ISO 13399 standards for cutting tool data representation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Ensure the PENTA toolholder pocket is clean and free of chips or debris before clamping the insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque guidelines for the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate.
