The ISCAR 6003104 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external and internal grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the PENTA series designation with insert size code 24N050J000, a neutral hand orientation, and a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process. The IC908 grade delivers reliable edge integrity across a broad range of workpiece materials. With a cutting width of 0.5 mm (0.0197 inches) and a maximum depth of cut of 1.0 mm (0.0394 inches), this insert is suited for fine, tight-tolerance groove profiles where consistent chip control is critical. It is single-use by design, not a multi-use tool.
This insert is intended for machining operations where groove width precision and surface finish are primary requirements. The J chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation during grooving passes. Compatible workpiece materials span multiple ISO material groups including steels (P), stainless steels (M), cast irons (K), hardened materials (H), and superalloys (S), making this a versatile option across automotive, aerospace, and general precision machining applications. It is sold in a minimum order quantity of 5 units per package, with each package containing 1 insert.
Designed for use in ISCAR PENTA series grooving toolholders that accept the 24N insert size. Compatible with workpiece material ISO codes H, K, M, P, and S, corresponding to material grade classifications C5, C6, and C7.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine in a full stop and lockout-tagout procedures in place before insert indexing or replacement. Seat the insert fully in the pocket and verify clamp torque per the toolholder manufacturer specification before resuming cutting. Do not exceed the stated maximum depth of cut of 1.0 mm to avoid insert fracture or premature edge failure. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating each new insert.
