The ISCAR 6002958 is a double-ended solid carbide cutoff and grooving insert from the Do-Grip series. It carries the DGN 1502J geometry with an IC908 manufacturer grade and a PVD coating for extended tool life in demanding cutting environments. The insert features a 1.5 mm cutting width, a neutral lead angle, a 7-degree relief angle, and a 0.16 mm corner radius. The J chipbreaker profile supports chip control during grooving and parting operations. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians working on lathes and turning centers.
The 6002958 is suited for grooving and parting applications across a wide range of workpiece materials. The IC908 grade with PVD coating performs across universal material groups, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys, corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, K, H, and S. The double-ended design allows two usable cutting edges per insert, extending service intervals. Typical applications include OD grooving, face grooving, and cutoff operations on CNC lathes in both job shop and production environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for Do-Grip series toolholders accepting DGN-style inserts with a 1502 size code. Confirm toolholder seat geometry and clamping style before installation.
Insert replacement and seating should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before removing or installing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert key specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for debris or wear before seating the new insert.
