The ISCAR 6002918 is a solid carbide cutoff and parting insert designed for high-performance grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the GFR4JS-4D designation, meaning it uses the Self-Grip clamping system, a 4 mm cutting width, a JS chipbreaker geometry, and right-hand lead angle orientation. The insert is manufactured from IC328 carbide grade and finished with a PVD coating, making it well suited for cutting superalloys and other difficult-to-machine materials. A 4-degree lead angle and 7-degree relief angle are ground into the insert, and corner radius is 0.03 mm. Licensed machinists and CNC tool-room technicians are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is intended for parting and cutoff applications where tight dimensional control and chip management are critical. The JS chipbreaker geometry is optimized to break chips efficiently in superalloy and mixed-material turning, reducing the risk of chip packing in deep parting operations. The Self-Grip series holding method uses a blade-style toolholder that clamps the insert mechanically without additional fasteners, which allows quick indexing on production equipment. It is suited for both light finishing passes and moderate material-removal parting cuts in precision machining environments.
Designed for use with ISCAR Self-Grip series blade-style parting toolholders that accept GFR insert style in the 4 mm width. Primary workpiece material classification is superalloy (ISO code M, P, S). Material grade range listed as C2, C3, C5, and C6.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Before seating or indexing the insert, confirm the machine spindle is stopped and locked and that all stored energy in the turret or toolpost is released per shop lockout-tagout procedures. The Self-Grip blade holder requires correct insert seating by pressing the insert firmly into the clamping slot until it is fully seated against the locating shoulder — do not use the insert as a pry point. Verify insert orientation matches the programmed lead angle direction before resuming cutting operations.
