The ISCAR 6002397 is a solid carbide cutoff and grooving insert from the Do-Grip series, designed for precision parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries manufacturer grade IC354, a PVD-coated carbide grade engineered for stainless steel and steel workpieces. The insert features a 0.2500 inch (6.35 mm) cutting width, a neutral lead angle, and a 7-degree relief angle, making it suitable for straight, accurate cutoff passes with minimal deflection. The double-ended design extends usable tool life per insert. Machinists and toolroom technicians working with ISO-standard tooling systems will find this insert fits directly into compatible Do-Grip style holders.
This insert is primarily applied in grooving and parting applications on ferrous workpieces, including stainless steel and carbon steel. It is rated under ISO material codes M and P, covering austenitic stainless steels and general steels respectively. Typical install scenarios include production turning, job shop parting operations, and Swiss-type or gang-tool setups where consistent chip control is critical. The C chipbreaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation in these materials, reducing the risk of chip packing in tight grooving situations.
Designed for use in Do-Grip series clamping-style insert holders that accept DGN-style inserts with a 6303 size code. Compatible primary workpiece materials are stainless steel (ISO code M) and steel (ISO code P).
Installation of carbide grooving and cutoff inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing any insert. Ensure the Do-Grip holder clamping mechanism is clean and free of chips before inserting; foreign material under the insert seat causes premature edge failure. Verify insert orientation and confirm the active cutting edge is properly positioned before resuming operation.
