The ISCAR 6000857 is a solid carbide cutoff and grooving insert designed for precision parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the GTN3W insert style with a manufacturer grade of IC20, this uncoated insert delivers consistent performance in demanding metal cutting applications. It features a 3.10 mm (0.1220 inch) cutting width, a neutral lead angle, and a 7-degree relief angle. A chipbreaker designation of W promotes controlled chip evacuation during grooving passes. This insert is a single-end design suited for use in compatible GTN-style toolholders and is installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is intended for grooving and cutoff applications across a range of workpiece materials corresponding to material grades C2 and C3, which generally cover cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and certain non-metallic materials. The neutral hand orientation makes it suitable for straight-in grooving without directional bias. The insert seat size is 3, aligning with GTN3-series toolholder pockets. Typical applications include external grooving, parting off, and recessing operations on bar stock and turned components in both light and medium-duty production settings.
Designed for use in GTN3-series toolholder pockets accepting insert seat size 3 inserts. Specific toolholder compatibility should be confirmed against the toolholder manufacturer specifications before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert clamp to the recommended seating torque listed in the toolholder documentation. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating the insert. Never force an insert into a pocket; improper seating can cause insert fracture or damage to the toolholder.
