The ISCAR 5996066 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for cutting internal NPT threads on a lathe or threading center. It carries the IC228 grade with a PVD-applied TiCN/TiN coating, making it suitable for a wide range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless, cast iron, nonferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys. The insert produces right-hand internal threads at 18 threads per inch to the NPT standard. With an inscribed circle of 3/16 inches (0.1875 inches) and a thickness of 0.079 inches, the 08IR insert style seats securely in compatible toolholders. Licensed machinists, CNC lathe operators, and precision threading specialists typically specify this insert for pipe-thread applications requiring consistent thread form and tool life.
The 5996066 is used in production and job-shop threading operations where NPT internal pipe threads are required. Typical applications include threading pipe fittings, valve bodies, manifolds, and fluid-system components in materials ranging from carbon steel and alloy steel to aluminum, titanium, and other universal workpiece classes. The IC228 grade is positioned as a multi-material performer, making it a practical stock insert for shops that run varied materials on the same program. Threading inserts are installed and changed by machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the lathe or turning center before indexing or replacing the insert.
