The ISCAR 5921208 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external thread cutting operations. It carries the IC908 manufacturer grade with a TiAlN PVD coating, delivering wear resistance across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert profiles 60-degree partial profile threads in a right-hand orientation and covers a threads-per-inch range of 7 to 5 TPI, equivalent to a 3.50 to 5.00 mm pitch. The inscribed circle measures 1/2 inch (12.70 mm) and the insert thickness is 0.188 inches. Machinists and toolroom professionals use this insert in CNC turning centers and manual lathes for producing external threaded features on a wide variety of metal components.
This insert is suited for threading operations on materials spanning multiple ISO workpiece categories, including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, steel, stainless steel, heat-resistant superalloys, and hardened materials, as indicated by its H, K, M, N, P, and S workpiece material codes. Designed as a direct-fit replacement threading insert for 22ER-style external threading toolholders that accept laydown inserts with a 1/2 inch inscribed circle. Specific toolholder compatibility should be verified against the ISCAR ISCARTHREAD toolholder documentation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured before seating or removing inserts. Use the correct torx or clamping key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to achieve proper clamping force without over-torquing. Verify insert orientation and confirm the right-hand designation matches the threading direction of the intended operation before initiating a cut.
