The ISCAR 5921206 is a laydown-style solid carbide threading insert designed for external partial-profile thread turning on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the IC908 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert delivers wear resistance and edge toughness across a broad range of workpiece materials. It cuts right-hand external 60-degree threads across a range of 48 to 16 threads per inch (TPI), or 0.50 mm to 1.50 mm pitch, making it well-suited for general-purpose metric and unified thread production. The 3/8-inch (0.375-inch decimal) inscribed circle and 0.143-inch thickness conform to standard 16ER insert geometry. Installation is performed by qualified machinists and CNC operators.
This insert is used in external threading operations on turning centers, engine lathes, and live-tool lathes in both job-shop and production environments. The IC908 grade with PVD TiAlN coating is suited for threading universal workpiece materials including steel, stainless, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials corresponding to material grade codes C1, C2, C6, and C7 and ISO workpiece codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The chipbreaker designation is M, optimized for medium cutting conditions. It is part of the ISCARTHREAD series and conforms to ISO 13399 standards for cutting tool data representation.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard production insert for 16ER-style external threading toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle laydown insert with a 60-degree thread form.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer torque and clamping specifications. Confirm the toolholder pocket and clamping screw are clean and undamaged before seating the insert. Always stop the spindle and follow lockout procedures before indexing or replacing inserts. Verify thread pitch and TPI selection against the part drawing before initiating the threading cycle.
