The ISCAR 5921196 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external thread cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Part of the ISCARTHREAD series, it carries the IC 508 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiCN/TiN coating for wear resistance across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert cuts a partial profile 60-degree thread standard, covering a thread pitch range of 48 to 8 TPI (0.50 to 3.00 mm pitch), making it a versatile choice for shops running mixed threading jobs. The 16ER insert style is right-hand orientation and features an M-style chipbreaker. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible toolholders as a consumable cutting tool.
This insert suits general-purpose external threading operations in a production or job-shop environment. Its universal primary workpiece material designation means it is rated for use across carbon steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous metals, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials. The 3/8 inch inscribed circle and 0.3750 inch thickness correspond to standard 16-series insert pocket geometry. It is well suited to medium-volume production runs where a single insert grade must handle varied material transitions without a toolholder change.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for standard 16ER-series external threading toolholders accepting a 3/8 inch inscribed circle laydown insert with a 0.3750 inch seat thickness.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the toolholder pocket and tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque; do not over-tighten carbide inserts. Verify insert orientation and thread engagement with a trial pass and gauge before running full production.
