The ISCAR 5920269 is a laydown-style external threading insert designed for cutting Unified National (UN) thread forms at 8 threads per inch (TPI). Built from solid carbide with an IC250 grade designation, it features a PVD-applied TiCN/TiN coating for wear resistance and extended tool life when threading cast iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. The insert carries a right-hand orientation and an inscribed circle (IC) of 0.375 inches (3/8 inch), with a thickness of 0.143 inches and a corner radius of 0.016 inches. It belongs to the ISCARTHREAD series and conforms to ISO 13399 standards. This insert is used by machinists and toolroom professionals on CNC lathes and turning centers.
This insert is suited for external UN threading operations in production and job-shop environments. Its IC250 carbide grade with PVD coating targets difficult-to-machine materials including stainless steel and cast iron, as well as general steel. The 16ERM insert style and 8 TPI pitch make it appropriate for coarse-pitch external thread profiles in the UN standard, commonly encountered in industrial fastener production, hydraulic fittings, and general mechanical assemblies requiring unified thread forms.
Designed for use in ISCARTHREAD series toolholders and boring bars accepting the 16ERM laydown insert style. Compatible with external threading of cast iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces per the primary workpiece material codes K, M, and P.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Use the correct torx or clamping screw specified for the toolholder to secure the insert; do not over-torque the clamping mechanism. Verify thread pitch, insert orientation, and coolant flow setup before resuming cutting operations.
