The ISCAR 5920066 is a laydown threading insert designed for external partial profile 60-degree thread cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built from solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiN coating and ISCAR IC250 grade, this insert handles a thread pitch range of 3.50 to 5.00 mm (7 to 5 TPI) in right-hand orientation. The 22ER insert style fits standard 22-series external threading toolholders. With an inscribed circle of 0.5000 inches (1/2 inch) and a thickness of 0.1880 inches, this insert delivers consistent thread form across a variety of workpiece materials without requiring a full-profile setup.
This insert is suited for external threading operations in general machining and production turning environments, including both job shops and high-volume manufacturing. It is rated for use on cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon and alloy steels, covering ISO material codes K, M, and P. The M-style chipbreaker promotes controlled chip evacuation during threading passes. Applications include threaded shaft production, fittings, fastener components, and any turned part requiring a 60-degree unified or metric thread form at coarser pitches. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working with lathes equipped for laydown-style insert tooling will find this a direct fit for standard 22ER holders.
Designed for use in 22ER-series external threading toolholders that accept laydown-style inserts. Compatible with workpiece materials including cast iron, stainless steel, and steel. Thread pitch coverage of 3.50 to 5.00 mm corresponds to the 7 to 5 TPI range for coarse external threads.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine powered down and spindle locked before insert indexing or replacement. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the pocket for chips or debris before seating. Follow your facility safety procedures and machine tool manufacturer guidelines when setting tool offsets after insert change.
