The ISCAR 5920029 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external UN thread-form cutting. Manufactured to the 16ER insert style, this insert carries the IC250 grade with a PVD-applied TiN coating for wear resistance on ferrous workpiece materials. It is configured for right-hand cutting at 12 threads per inch (TPI) and features a 3/8-inch (0.3750 inch decimal) inscribed circle with a thickness of 0.1430 inches. The M-style chipbreaker geometry promotes controlled chip flow during threading passes. This insert is used by machinists and toolroom professionals on CNC lathes and manual turning centers equipped for laydown threading toolholding systems.
This insert is suited for threading operations on cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon or alloy steel workpieces. The IC250 carbide grade with PVD TiN coating addresses the demands of both interrupted and continuous threading cuts in these material groups. Typical applications include production threading of fittings, fasteners, couplings, and hydraulic components where UN external thread profiles are required. Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use insert for 16ER-series laydown external threading toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed-circle insert. Compatible with workpiece material groups P (steel), M (stainless steel), and K (cast iron) per ISO material classification.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before seating or replacing the insert. Use the correct torx or clamping-screw driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer to achieve proper clamping force without overtightening. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating the new insert.
