The ISCAR 5920027 is a laydown-style external threading insert designed for partial profile 55-degree thread forms. Built from solid carbide with an IC250 grade and a PVD-applied TiCN/TiN coating, this insert delivers consistent thread geometry and wear resistance across a broad TPI range of 48 to 8. It features a 3/8 inch (0.3750 inch decimal) inscribed circle, a thickness of 0.143 inches, and a right-hand cutting orientation. The M chipbreaker designation suits interrupted and continuous threading operations. Machinists and CNC operators working with external thread profiles on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces are the primary users.
This insert is used in external threading operations on CNC lathes and turning centers where a partial profile 55-degree thread standard is required. The 48-8 TPI range makes it suitable for both fine and relatively coarse thread pitches, covering pitch values from 0.50 mm to 3.00 mm. It is well-suited to production environments machining cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon or alloy steel components where coating durability and edge consistency are critical.
Designed for use in laydown threading toolholders accepting a 16ERM insert style with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle. Compatible primary workpiece materials include cast iron (ISO K), stainless steel (ISO M), and steel (ISO P). Conforms to ISO 13399 standards for cutting tool data representation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torx or clamp screw driver as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert properly without over-torquing the clamping mechanism. Verify insert seating and edge condition before resuming cutting operations.
