The ISCAR 5920025 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external thread-turning operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Designated 16ERM A60 IC-250, it cuts a partial profile 60-degree thread form across a range of 48 to 16 threads per inch, covering metric pitches from 0.50 mm to 1.50 mm. The insert is coated with TiN via a PVD process, improving surface hardness and wear resistance at the cutting edge. With an inscribed circle of 3/8 inches and a thickness of 0.143 inches, this insert fits standard ER-style laydown toolholders. It is installed by licensed machinists and CNC operators in precision threading applications.
This insert is suited for threading cast iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces in production and job-shop environments. The IC-250 grade with PVD TiN coating is well matched to interrupted cuts and materials that demand edge toughness alongside wear resistance. The M chipbreaker geometry supports chip control during threading passes. Typical applications include external thread generation on shafts, fittings, and threaded fastener components across a variety of industries requiring precise 60-degree thread profiles.
Designed for use in 16ER-style laydown threading toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert. Compatible with workpiece materials including cast iron, stainless steel, and steel as noted in the product specifications.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamping screw are clean and free of chips before inserting; debris under the seat affects depth of cut accuracy. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specification for the clamping screw — do not over-tighten carbide inserts, as this risks fracturing the substrate.
