The ISCAR 5902389 is a laydown threading insert designed for internal thread cutting operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Built from solid carbide with an IC908 manufacturer grade coating, this insert delivers consistent thread form across a wide pitch range of 0.50 mm to 1.50 mm, corresponding to 16 to 48 threads per inch. The right-hand cut orientation and 16IR insert style make it a direct fit for standard ISCARTHREAD toolholders. The M chipbreaker geometry controls chip evacuation during threading passes, reducing the risk of chip interference in bore applications. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments are the primary users.
This insert is suited for internal threading on a broad range of workpiece materials. The Universal primary workpiece material designation, backed by ISO material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S, means the IC908 grade handles steel, stainless, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, superalloys, and hardened materials without requiring a grade change between setups. It is commonly installed in threading boring bars used on small to medium bore diameters in both high-volume production and prototype turning work. Compliance with ISO 13399 ensures full digital tooling data compatibility with CAM systems and tool management software.
Designed for use with ISCARTHREAD series internal threading toolholders accepting the 16IR insert style in right-hand configuration. ISO 13399 compliant tooling data supports compatibility verification in major CAM platforms.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Use the correct torx or clamping screw torque as specified by the toolholder manufacturer documentation — do not estimate clamping force by feel. Verify insert seating and thread pitch selection against the workpiece drawing before initiating the first threading pass.
