The ISCAR 5902241 is a laydown-style threading insert engineered for cutting internal NPTF threads at 14 threads per inch. Built from solid carbide and coated with a TiN/TiAlN finish applied via PVD process, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability across a wide range of workpiece materials. The IC908 grade is rated for universal application, covering ferrous and non-ferrous materials including steel, cast iron, stainless, aluminum, and superalloys. The right-hand configuration and 11IR insert style make it a direct fit for compatible ISCARTHREAD series toolholders. Thickness is 0.126 inches with a 6.35 mm inscribed circle. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals handling pipe thread operations are the primary users.
This insert is suited for internal NPTF thread milling and turning operations in both production and maintenance machining environments. NPTF is a dryseal pipe thread standard requiring precise fit, making insert geometry and grade selection critical. The 14 TPI specification targets standard pipe thread applications in plumbing, hydraulic, and pneumatic fitting work. The universal primary workpiece material rating means this insert transitions between job materials without requiring a grade change, reducing tooling inventory for shops running mixed-material work.
Designed for use with ISCARTHREAD series internal threading toolholders accepting the 11IR insert style with a 6.35 mm inscribed circle. Confirm toolholder compatibility by insert style code and inscribed circle size before ordering.
Threading inserts of this type are installed and replaced by machinists operating CNC or manual lathes and threading equipment. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all motion has ceased before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure, and inspect the insert seat and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Handle solid carbide inserts with care to avoid chipping on edges prior to use.
