The ISCAR 5902198 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for internal UNJ thread cutting at 12 threads per inch. Manufactured to ISO 13399 standards and carrying the IC908 grade designation, this insert features a PVD-applied TiAlN coating that supports extended tool life in demanding cutting applications. The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inches (0.3750 inches decimal) and the insert thickness is 0.143 inches. The right-hand cutting geometry is configured for internal threading operations on a range of workpiece materials. It is used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals running CNC lathes or threading equipment requiring precision UNJ profiles.
This insert is suited for internal UNJ thread production across multiple material classes, including carbon steels, alloy steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys, as reflected by its material grade ratings of C1, C2, C6, and C7 and workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. It is part of the ISCARTHREAD series and is appropriate for production threading environments where consistent thread form accuracy and coating durability are required. Typical applications include aerospace and general-purpose machined components requiring UNJ internal thread forms.
Designed for use in laydown-style threading toolholders accepting the 16IR insert style with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle. Specific toolholder compatibility should be confirmed against the ISCARTHREAD series toolholder specifications before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine in a full stop and locked-out condition before indexing or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or clamping screw torque as specified by the toolholder manufacturer for the 16IR seat. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper clamping and thread-form accuracy. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine manufacturer guidelines when setting tool offsets after insert change.
