The ISCAR 5902183 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for internal UN thread cutting at 24 threads per inch (TPI). Carrying the IC228 grade designation with a PVD-applied TiCN/TiN finish, this insert delivers wear resistance and edge integrity on a wide range of workpiece materials. The right-hand configuration and 06IR insert style make it a standard choice for internal threading operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The inscribed circle measures 5/32 inches (3.97 mm) and the insert thickness is 0.047 inches. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians handling production threading in metals including steel, stainless, cast iron, aluminum, and high-temp alloys will find this insert compatible with their standard toolholders in the ISCARTHREAD series.
This insert is suited for internal UN thread cutting in both production shop and job shop environments. The IC228 grade targets universal workpiece material compatibility, covering material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S — spanning carbon steels, stainless steels, cast irons, nonferrous metals, and superalloys. Typical applications include threading bores on turned components, fittings, and mechanical housings where UN thread standards are required. Installation is performed on CNC turning equipment by machinists and toolroom professionals using standard laydown-style internal threading toolholders.
Designed for use with ISCARTHREAD series internal threading toolholders accepting the 06IR laydown insert style. Suitable for universal workpiece material categories H, K, M, N, P, and S per the manufacturer grade designation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians on CNC lathes or turning centers. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or replacing the insert. Use the correct torx or clamping key specified for the toolholder to secure the insert without overtightening. Verify thread profile and pitch with a thread gauge after the first pass before committing to full production runs.
