The ISCAR 5902166 is a laydown-style threading insert designed for external UNJ thread cutting at 24 threads per inch (TPI). It is manufactured from solid carbide in the IC908 submicron grade and finished with a PVD-applied TiN/TiAlN coating for improved wear resistance and edge integrity. The insert follows the 16ER style designation and carries an inscribed circle of 0.375 inches (9.53 mm) with a thickness of 0.143 inches. It is right-hand oriented and intended for use by machinists and CNC turning professionals on threading operations where UNJ profile tolerances are required.
This insert is suited for external threading applications on CNC lathes and turning centers in production and job-shop environments. The IC908 grade with PVD coating performs across a broad range of workpiece materials, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys, as reflected by its universal primary workpiece material classification. It is a direct fit for ISCARTHREAD series toolholders accepting 16ER inserts.
Designed for use with ISCARTHREAD series toolholders that accept 16ER style laydown threading inserts. Suitable for external UNJ thread turning across workpiece material classes H, K, M, N, P, and S per universal material classification.
Threading inserts must be seated firmly in the insert pocket of the toolholder and secured with the appropriate clamp or screw before operation. Power down the spindle and confirm the machine is in a safe state before changing inserts. Use the correct torque driver for the clamping screw to avoid cracking the carbide substrate. Consult the toolholder manufacturer specifications for recommended insert seating and alignment procedures.
