The ISCAR 5902004 is a laydown threading insert engineered for external UN thread cutting at 32 threads per inch (TPI). Built from solid carbide with a TiAlN PVD coating under the IC908 grade, this insert delivers consistent thread form in a wide range of workpiece materials. The 3/8 inch (0.375 inch decimal) inscribed circle and 0.143 inch thickness conform to standard laydown toolholder pockets. IC908 grade is formulated for versatility across steel, stainless, cast iron, aluminum, and heat-resistant alloys, making it a reliable choice for production threading on CNC lathes and turning centers. Right-hand cutting orientation suits the majority of external threading operations.
This insert is used in external UN thread turning applications across general machining, job shop, and production environments. Typical installations involve CNC turning centers or manual lathes equipped with compatible 16ER-style laydown threading toolholders. The 32 TPI thread form targets fine-thread fastener profiles and precision threaded components. Workpiece material grades C1, C2, C6, and C7 as well as material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S are all listed as compatible primary workpiece categories, covering a broad spectrum from carbon steel to superalloys. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers working in metalworking and precision parts manufacturing are the primary end users.
Designed for use in 16ER-style laydown threading toolholders. Compatible with workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S and material grades C1, C2, C6, and C7 as specified by the manufacturer. Part of the ISCARTHREAD series.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque specifications for 16ER-style inserts. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamping screw are free of chips and debris before seating the insert. Confirm spindle and axis motion are fully stopped and machine power is locked out before any insert change. Verify thread form and pitch with a thread gauge after the first cut before proceeding to full production.
