The ISCAR 5901957 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external Whitworth thread cutting at 11 threads per inch. Manufactured to the 16ER insert style, it carries the IC908 grade designation and a PVD-applied TiAlN coating for wear resistance across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert features a 3/8-inch (0.375 inches) inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.143 inches. Its geometry is suited for right-hand external threading operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians are the typical end users installing and indexing this insert.
This insert is intended for external Whitworth thread profiles at 11 TPI in production and job-shop turning environments. The IC908 grade with PVD coating supports use on a wide range of materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials, as reflected by its universal primary workpiece material designation covering ISO material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S. It is part of the ISCARTHREAD series and conforms to ISO 13399 standards for cutting tool data representation.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement laydown threading insert for use in 16ER-compatible threading toolholders configured for external Whitworth thread applications.
This insert is indexed and seated by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing or indexing any insert. Ensure the insert pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Use the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque procedure for the clamping screw to prevent insert movement or breakage during cutting.
