The ISCAR 5901954 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external ISO threading operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the IC908 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert delivers consistent thread form and edge life across a broad range of workpiece materials. The 16ER insert style features a 2.00mm pitch, a 3/8 inch (0.375 inch) inscribed circle, and a thickness of 0.143 inches. The TiAlN finish provides wear resistance at elevated cutting temperatures, making the insert suitable for interrupted cuts and general-purpose threading. Machining professionals and toolroom technicians working with ISO-standard external threads will find this insert fits standard 16ER toolholders without modification.
This insert is intended for external right-hand ISO thread profiles at a 2.00mm pitch. The IC908 grade is rated for universal workpiece material compatibility, covering material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S, which correspond to hardened materials, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, steel, and heat-resistant superalloys respectively. It is well-suited for production turning environments where consistent thread accuracy and repeatable insert indexing are priorities. Typical applications include threading on steel, stainless, and non-ferrous components in job shop and production machining contexts.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for standard 16ER threading toolholders accepting a 3/8 inch inscribed circle laydown insert geometry.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or clamp screw driver as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert securely without over-torquing the clamping hardware. Verify insert orientation and pitch selection against the programmed thread specification before resuming cuts.
