The ISCAR 5901948 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external partial profile 60-degree thread forms. Manufactured under the ISCARTHREAD series and coated with a TiN/TiAlN finish applied via PVD process, this insert is engineered for precision threading operations across a range of workpiece materials. It carries ISCAR IC908 grade designation with a submicron carbide substrate, offering strong resistance to wear and thermal deformation at cutting speeds typical of CNC turning centers. The insert covers a pitch range of 3.50 mm to 5.00 mm, equivalent to 7-5 TPI, making it suitable for both metric and inch threading applications in a single insert geometry.
This insert is intended for right-hand external threading on CNC lathes and turning centers in production and job-shop environments. It fits toolholders accepting the 22ER insert style with a 1/2-inch inscribed circle. The universal primary workpiece material classification supports use on a broad spectrum of materials including carbon steels, stainless steels, cast iron, nonferrous alloys, and heat-resistant superalloys, corresponding to ISO material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in metalworking, tooling, and precision machining trades are the primary installers of this insert.
Designed for use with 22ER-style external threading toolholders accepting a 1/2-inch inscribed circle insert. Verify toolholder seat geometry and clamping style before installation to confirm fitment.
Insert changes should be performed with the machine in a full stop, with the spindle locked and all axes at a safe home position. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating and torquing the insert clamp screw. Inspect the insert pocket seat for chips or debris before seating the new insert, as contamination in the pocket can affect insert seating and thread accuracy. CNC operators should verify thread pitch programming and first-part inspection before running full production quantities.
