The ISCAR 5901944 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external partial profile threading on metalworking lathes and turning centers. Manufactured in the IC908 submicron carbide grade with a PVD-applied TiN/TiAlN coating, this insert handles a broad range of thread pitches from 48 to 16 TPI (0.50 to 1.50 mm pitch) in a single 60-degree profile geometry. The 3/8 inch (9.53 mm) inscribed circle and 0.143 inch thickness conform to the 16ER insert style standard. Right-hand cutting orientation makes it the standard choice for conventional external threading passes. Licensed machinists, CNC operators, and production turning shops install and index this insert during scheduled tooling maintenance.
This insert is suited for external threading operations on turning centers and manual lathes across a wide range of workpiece materials. The IC908 grade with H, K, M, N, P, and S material group ratings gives it universal applicability across steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous alloys, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials. It is commonly used in job shop and production environments where a single insert geometry must cover multiple thread pitches without a toolholder change. The B chipbreaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation during threading passes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for standard 16ER external threading toolholders. Compatible with toolholders accepting the 16ER laydown insert style with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle seating geometry.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a full stop and lockout-tagout procedures applied. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert clamp screw driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Do not use a damaged or chipped insert, as this can compromise thread form accuracy and create a hazard during cutting.
