The ISCAR 5901910 is a laydown-style carbide threading insert designed for internal threading operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the 16IR insert style and carrying the IC908 manufacturer grade, this insert features a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) TiAlN coating applied over a solid carbide substrate. It cuts a partial profile 60-degree thread form and covers a thread pitch range of 48 to 8 TPI (0.50 to 3.00 mm pitch). The 3/8 inch inscribed circle and 0.143 inch thickness conform to ISO 13399 standards, making it compatible with standard 16IR toolholders. It is intended for right-hand internal threading and is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 5 pieces.
This insert is suited for internal threading of bores in a wide range of workpiece materials, reflecting its Universal primary workpiece material designation covering material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. Typical applications include threading on steel, stainless steel, aluminum, non-ferrous alloys, heat-resistant superalloys, and hardened materials in both production and job-shop turning environments. The IC908 grade and TiAlN PVD coating provide wear resistance and edge stability across these material groups. It is part of the ISCARTHREAD series and is well suited to shops running general-purpose internal threading programs on modern CNC turning equipment.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for standard 16IR-style internal threading toolholders and boring bars that accept laydown threading inserts with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician on a CNC or manual lathe with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully into the toolholder pocket and torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification using the correct Torx or hex key. Verify insert orientation and hand designation match the programmed tool path before resuming cutting. Inspect the insert seating surface and pocket for chips or debris before each insert change to prevent premature edge failure.
