The ISCAR 5901581 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for internal UN thread cutting at 18 threads per inch. Manufactured in the 16IR insert style, it carries the IC908 grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating for wear resistance across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert features a 3/8 inch (0.375 inch decimal) inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.143 inches. The M chipbreaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation during threading operations. This insert is used by machinists and toolroom technicians working on CNC lathes and manual turning centers where consistent internal thread form and tool life are priorities.
This insert is suited for right-hand internal UN threading applications across universal workpiece material categories including ferrous, non-ferrous, stainless, heat-resistant alloys, and cast materials. It fits standard 16IR toolholders used in production threading on CNC turning equipment. The IC908 grade is positioned for moderate to high cutting speeds where PVD coating provides thermal and abrasion resistance. This insert is sold individually but is subject to a minimum order quantity of 5 pieces.
Designed for use in standard 16IR threading toolholders. Compatible with workpiece material grades C1, C2, C6, and C7 and universal material categories coded H, K, M, N, P, and S. Conforms to ISO 13399 tooling data standards.
Installation and replacement of threading inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Use the correct torx or clamp screw driver specified for the toolholder to seat the insert properly without over-torquing the clamping mechanism. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping components for wear or debris before seating the insert. Verify thread form and pitch against workpiece requirements before beginning a production run.
