The ISCAR 5901573 is a laydown threading insert engineered for right-hand external NPT thread cutting on a wide range of workpiece materials. Built from solid carbide with an IC908 grade designation and a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert delivers consistent thread form accuracy and extended tool life in demanding production environments. It carries a 16ER insert style profile with a 3/8 inch (0.375 inches) inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.143 inches. The 14 TPI pitch matches the NPT standard for tapered pipe thread applications. Installation and use require a compatible 16ER-profile threading toolholder. This insert is intended for use by machinists and tooling professionals in CNC turning and manual lathe operations.
This insert is suited for external NPT tapered pipe thread cutting in both job shop and production-floor environments. The IC908 grade with PVD TiAlN coating supports use across universal workpiece material categories, including steels, stainless alloys, cast irons, non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. The M chipbreaker geometry supports stable chip control across these material groups. Typical applications include threading pipe fittings, nipples, couplings, and other components requiring NPT-standard tapered external threads.
Designed for use with 16ER-profile threading toolholders compatible with laydown-style inserts. Suitable for material grades C1, C2, C6, and C7, and workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S per ISO 13399 classification. Conforms to ISO 13399 standards.
This insert should be installed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician using the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured before seating or removing the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before each installation. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque guidance and do not overtighten the retention screw.
