The ISCAR 5901571 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external NPT thread cutting on CNC lathes and threading machines. Manufactured to the 16ER insert style in grade IC908, this insert carries a PVD-applied TiAlN coating for elevated heat resistance and extended tool life across a broad range of workpiece materials. It cuts right-hand external threads at 8 threads per inch to the NPT standard and features a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.143 inches. The M chipbreaker geometry supports consistent chip control during threading passes. This insert is installed and used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in production and job-shop environments.
The 5901571 is suited for external NPT pipe thread applications on materials classified under multiple ISO workpiece groups, including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, carbon and alloy steels, and superalloys. Its universal workpiece material compatibility makes it appropriate for both general production threading and mixed-material shops. Typical use involves single-point threading cycles on CNC turning centers where repeatable thread profile accuracy and insert-to-insert consistency are required across high-volume runs or precision one-off components.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard production insert for ISCARTHREAD series toolholders accepting 16ER-style laydown threading inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle.
Laydown threading inserts are seated and clamped by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician following the toolholder manufacturer's torque and clamping specifications. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Verify correct seating of the insert in the pocket and confirm thread-form orientation matches the programmed cutting direction before resuming operation. Handle carbide inserts carefully to avoid chipping the cutting edges during installation.
