The ISCAR 5901568 is a laydown-style threading insert designed for external UN thread cutting at 16 threads per inch (TPI). Built from solid carbide and coated with a TiAlN finish via a PVD coating process, it carries ISCAR grade IC908 for wear resistance across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert features a right-hand cutting orientation and an M chipbreaker geometry. With a 3/8-inch (0.375 inches) inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.143 inches, it is sized for standard external threading toolholders in the 16ER insert style. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists install this insert for high-volume or precision UN thread production.
This insert is suited for external UN thread turning on CNC lathes and manual turning centers in job shop, production machining, and maintenance-repair environments. The IC908 grade and PVD TiAlN coating make it applicable across universal primary workpiece material classes including steel, stainless, cast iron, non-ferrous, and high-temperature alloys. It belongs to the ISCARTHREAD series and conforms to ISO 13399 standards for cutting tool data representation. Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for 16ER-style external threading toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle laydown insert. Compatible with workpiece material grades C1, C2, C6, and C7, and with primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as defined by the supplier data.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. The machine spindle must be stopped and all energy isolated before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert securely — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excessive clamping force. Verify thread form and pitch with a thread gauge after first part to confirm setup before production runs.
