The ISCAR 5901567 is a laydown-style solid carbide threading insert designed for external UN thread forms at 12 threads per inch. Manufactured to the 16ER insert style, it carries the IC908 grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating for elevated wear resistance and thermal stability during threading operations. The insert features a right-hand cutting orientation and an M-series chipbreaker geometry suited to a broad range of workpiece materials. At 0.375 inches inscribed circle diameter and 0.143 inches thick, it seats into standard 16ER toolholders used on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert for production threading of external UN fastener profiles.
This insert is applied in external threading operations on materials spanning steel, stainless, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys, as indicated by its H, K, M, N, P, and S material grade designations. Typical use cases include threading hydraulic fittings, fastener blanks, and precision shaft features to UN standards. The IC908 grade with PVD coating is well-suited for interrupted cuts and applications where built-up edge on the cutting face must be minimized. This insert conforms to ISO 13399 tooling data standards, enabling direct integration with CAM and tool management systems.
Designed for use in standard 16ER external threading toolholders. Compatible with workpiece materials designated under material grade codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. Conforms to ISO 13399 tooling data standards.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before seating or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or clamping screw as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert - do not overtighten with impact tools. Verify thread pitch and cutting direction match the programmed toolpath before initiating a threading cycle.
