The ISCAR 5791517 is a TPG-style ceramic turning insert designed for precision external turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. Manufactured from uncoated ceramic with a bright finish, this triangular insert features a 7/32 inch (0.2190 inch) inscribed circle, a 1/64 inch (0.0156 inch) corner radius, and a 60-degree included angle. The positive rake geometry and 11-degree relief angle reduce cutting forces and support stable chip formation at elevated cutting speeds. It belongs to ISCAR's Isoturn series and is held in place by a clamp-style toolholder. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is engineered primarily for turning cast iron workpieces, where ceramic cutting materials excel due to their hardness and thermal resistance at high surface speeds. It carries an H and K primary workpiece material code per ISO 13399, covering grey cast iron and other cast iron grades. The Isoturn series designation indicates compatibility with standard TPG clamp-style toolholders. With a maximum depth of cut of 1.50 mm (0.0590 inch) and an insert length of 9.60 mm (0.3780 inch), it is suited to finishing and light-to-medium roughing passes where dimensional accuracy and surface finish are the priority.

Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked. Use the correct clamp screw and torque tool specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not over-tighten or substitute hardware. Inspect the insert pocket seat for debris or damage before seating the insert. Ceramic inserts are brittle; avoid interrupted cuts or conditions that produce high mechanical shock unless the application has been confirmed suitable by the toolholder and insert manufacturer.
