The ISCAR 5790805 is a ceramic turning insert in the TNGA style, part of the Isoturn series. It features a triangular insert shape with a 60-degree included angle, a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. The insert is manufactured from ceramic substrate with an Al2O3 and TiCN coating applied in an uncoated-process finish under grade IN22. At 0.1874 inches thick and 0.8661 inches long, this insert is designed for use in high-speed finishing and semi-finishing operations on hard and abrasive materials. Licensed HVAC techs do not install this part — it is a machining consumable installed by CNC machinists and toolroom professionals.
The ISCAR 5790805 is suited for turning operations on cast iron and hard materials, as indicated by primary workpiece material codes H and K per ISO 13399 classification. It performs in applications where ceramic cutting tool materials offer thermal resistance and wear performance advantages over carbide. The Isoturn series geometry and T chip breaker are optimized for controlled chip formation in these demanding material categories. Typical use is in production turning centers and CNC lathes where high cutting speeds and light-to-moderate depths of cut are standard.
Designed for use in TNGA-style toolholders compatible with the Isoturn series. Primary workpiece material compatibility is cast iron and hard materials per ISO material codes K and H. Verify toolholder seat geometry and clamping method before installation.
Insert seating and replacement should be performed by qualified machinists with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate torque wrench for the clamping screw to ensure secure seating without cracking the ceramic substrate — refer to the toolholder manufacturer specification for fastener torque. Inspect the insert pocket for debris or damage before seating a new insert. Ceramic inserts are brittle; avoid interrupted cuts or conditions outside the recommended depth-of-cut range unless the grade is confirmed suitable for that application.
