The ISCAR 5697950 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for high-performance tangential plunge milling operations. Manufactured under the ANSI/ISO designation HTP LNHT 1606 ETR IC908, this insert features a butterfly shape with four cutting edges and a neutral hand orientation. The IC908 grade substrate is submicron carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, delivering thermal stability and edge toughness in demanding cutting conditions. The insert measures 0.6496 inches in length, 0.2560 inches inscribed circle diameter, and 0.4740 inches thick, with a 3/64-inch (0.0472-inch) corner radius. It is seated and held by screw clamping. Installation and setup are performed by machinists and tooling technicians working on CNC milling centers.
This insert is engineered for the ISCAR TANGPLUNGE series and is compatible with HTP LN16 cutter bodies. It handles a maximum depth of cut of 0.6496 inches (14.00 mm) and is rated for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys and titanium, and hard materials. The ETR chip breaker geometry and chamfered, honed cutting edges support efficient chip evacuation and edge stability across these workpiece materials. The double-sided configuration maximizes insert utilization, making it well suited for production milling environments where tool economy and consistent performance are priorities.
Designed for use with ISCAR TANGPLUNGE series HTP LN16 cutter bodies. The ANSI catalog designation is HTP LNHT 1606 ETR IC908 and the ISO code is HTP LNHT 1606 ETR. Verify cutter body pocket specifications before ordering.
This insert is installed and indexed by a machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key specified by the cutter body manufacturer to achieve proper screw clamp torque — do not over-tighten, as this can fracture the carbide. Inspect the cutter body pocket for debris or damage before seating a new insert.
