The ISCAR 5607691 is a SEMT 140405ATR milling insert in IC830 grade solid carbide, designed for high-performance face and shoulder milling in demanding metalworking applications. This single-sided, square-profile insert features a helical cutting edge style and a positive rake geometry that reduces cutting forces and heat generation at the tool-workpiece interface. The AlTiN and TiN dual-layer PVD coating, branded as ISCAR Sumotec, delivers strong wear resistance and thermal stability. With four available cutting edges per insert and a chip breaker designation of ATR, this insert is suited for roughing and semi-finishing passes across a range of difficult materials including steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium.
This insert is intended for use in milling applications on CNC machining centers and manual mills where consistent depth-of-cut control and long tool life are priorities. It fits into ISCAR HELIOCTO series cutter bodies, specifically confirmed compatible with the HOF-R06 and HOE-R06 cutter series. Primary workpiece material codes are P, M, and S, covering steel, stainless steel, and superalloys and titanium. The insert is held in place by screw mounting, which is standard for this insert style. Typical users are machinists and CNC operators in job shops, aerospace production, and general metalworking environments.
Confirmed compatible with ISCAR HELIOCTO series cutter bodies HOF-R06 and HOE-R06. ANSI code: SEMT 140405ATR IC830. ISO code: SEMT 140405ATR.
Installation of milling inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the spindle fully stopped and the machine locked out per OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct torx or hex key as specified by the cutter body manufacturer when seating the insert screw — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide insert body. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before mounting. Replace all inserts in a cutter body at the same time when possible to maintain balanced cutting performance.
