The ISCAR 5606289 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the manufacturer designation ONHU 050505-TN-MM in grade IC830. It is an octagon-shaped, double-sided negative-rake insert with 16 cutting edges, designed for use in indexable milling cutters on machining centers and milling machines. The AlTiN plus TiN PVD coating under ISCARs Sumotec classification provides thermal and wear resistance for demanding cuts. The T-Land cutting edge style and MM chip breaker geometry make this insert suited for medium milling operations across a broad range of workpiece materials. Installation is performed by machinists and tooling technicians using the screw-clamp holding method.
This insert is intended for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces in both roughing and semi-finishing applications. It is compatible with ISCAR HELIDO series cutter bodies designated FF SOF, SOF45, and SOE45. The neutral hand designation allows fitment in standard insert pockets without left- or right-hand orientation restrictions. Typical use environments include production machining shops, aerospace component manufacturing, and general metalworking operations where consistent edge life and chip control across difficult materials are required.
Compatible with ISCAR HELIDO series cutter bodies FF SOF, SOF45, and SOE45. Designed for machining steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpiece materials per material application codes P, M, and S.
This insert is installed and indexed by machinists or tooling technicians. Before changing inserts, power down the spindle and confirm the machine is in a safe lockout state per shop safety procedures. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to loosen the clamping screw, seat the new cutting edge, and torque the screw per the cutter body manufacturers specification. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure proper contact and runout.
