The ISCAR 5606107 is a solid carbide milling insert in the HELITANG series, designed for high-productivity face and shoulder milling operations. It carries the ANSI designation T490 LNMT 0804PNR IC810 and features an AlTiCrN plus TiN PVD coating applied under the Sumotec PVD process. The butterfly-shaped LNMT insert has a negative rake geometry with a helical cutting edge style, a 90-degree included angle, and four usable cutting edges. The IC810 grade is engineered for cutting steel and cast iron at demanding feed rates and cutting speeds. Licensed machinists and toolroom professionals install this insert into compatible T490 cutter bodies.
This insert fits T490-series milling cutter bodies compatible with the LNK08 pocket style, specifically the T490 LNK08 cutter series. It is suited for both roughing and semi-finishing applications in steel and cast iron workpieces, including gray iron, ductile iron, and structural carbon steel. Typical install environments include CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers in job shops, aerospace component shops, and general manufacturing facilities. The double-sided design and four cutting edges maximize tool life per insert, reducing cost per edge in high-volume milling programs. The PNR chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip flow at moderate to aggressive depths of cut.
Designed for use with T490 LNK08 cutter series bodies. Compatible primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO material code P) and cast iron (ISO material code K).
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the cutter body secured before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw to the cutter body specification; do not overtighten, as this can crack the carbide substrate. Inspect the pocket seat and screw threads for chips or debris before installing a new insert to ensure proper seating and runout.
