The ISCAR 5606006 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for tangential plunge milling operations. Carrying the ANSI designation HTP LNHT 1006 ETR IC808, this double-sided insert features a butterfly shape with a 90-degree included angle and four cutting edges, maximizing tool life per insert. The IC808 grade uses a submicron carbide substrate with a multilayer PVD coating of TiAlN, AlTiN, and TiN applied through ISCAR Sumotec PVD technology. It delivers a maximum depth of cut of 0.335 inches and a cutting edge effective length of 0.335 inches. The negative rake geometry and chamfered, honed cutting edge style suit high-demand metalcutting environments. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production shops install and index this insert.
This insert is engineered for use in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys and titanium, and hard materials, covering ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H. It is part of the TANGPLUNGE series and is compatible with HTP LN10 cutter bodies. The ETR chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation across these material groups. Typical applications include tangential plunge roughing and semi-finishing on machining centers in both job shop and production environments where demanding workpiece materials require a tough, wear-resistant insert.
Designed for use with HTP LN10 series cutter bodies. Insert size code 1006 with an inscribed circle of 0.256 inches and thickness of 0.391 inches. Verify cutter body pocket geometry and insert seat dimensions before installation.
Installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out, tagged-out state per shop safety procedures. Use the correct torx or hex key driver to the cutter manufacturer's specified seating method when securing the clamping screw; avoid over-torquing, which can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the insert pocket seat for chips or debris before seating the insert, and verify correct orientation for the right-hand cutting direction. Handle carbide inserts carefully to avoid chipping cutting edges prior to use.
