The ISCAR 5605280 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the ANSI designation HTP LNHT 1606 ER IC928. It is designed for high-feed and plunge-milling operations in the TANGPLUNGE tooling system, where tangential clamping via screw provides rigid, stable cutting. The insert features a TiAlN coating applied by PVD process, which builds heat and oxidation resistance at the cutting edge. Grade IC928 is a coated carbide grade suited for interrupted and continuous cuts in steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. With four available cutting edges on a double-sided body, each insert delivers multiple index positions before replacement. Licensed HVAC, plumbing, and machining trades aside, this insert is installed by CNC machinists and toolroom professionals.
This insert fits tangential-style milling cutters in the HTP LN16 cutter series. It is used in milling operations on steel (ISO P), stainless steel (ISO M), superalloys, and titanium (ISO S) workpiece materials, covering a broad range of production and job-shop machining scenarios. The ER chip breaker geometry and negative rake angle make it effective in roughing and semi-finishing passes where chip control and edge strength are the priority. The neutral hand designation means it seats in both right- and left-hand cutter configurations without a dedicated orientation.
Designed for use with HTP LN16 cutter series toolholders. Insert size code 1606 fits cutters specified for LNHT-style tangential inserts. Complies with ANSI and ISO 13399 standards.
Install and index this insert using the appropriate ISCAR TANGPLUNGE cutter body torque driver — always follow the cutter body manufacturer seat-cleaning and torquing procedure before running at full feed rates. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket seat for chips or burrs that could cause improper seating, which leads to premature edge failure or dimensional error. Handle solid carbide inserts carefully to avoid chipping the cutting edges during storage and installation.
