The ISCAR 5605020 is a solid carbide milling insert in the BALLPLUS series, designed for high-performance ball nose milling applications. Identified by ANSI code HBR D.62-QF IC328, this insert features a 5/8-inch inscribed circle (0.625 inches), a thickness of 0.133 inches, and a maximum depth of cut of 0.42 inches. The IC328 grade substrate is coated with TiCN via a PVD process, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability. With two cutting edges, a positive rake geometry, a honed cutting edge style, and a QF chip breaker, this insert is suited for productive material removal in demanding cutting conditions. It is held in place by a screw and is right-hand oriented.
This insert is engineered for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, covering ISO material groups P, M, and S. It is a single-sided insert intended for use in compatible HCM cutter bodies within the ISCAR BALLPLUS platform. Typical applications include profiling, contouring, and semi-finish to finish milling passes on ferrous and difficult-to-machine alloys. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling specialists in production machining, aerospace, and general metalworking environments are the primary end users for this insert.
Compatible with HCM cutter bodies in the ISCAR BALLPLUS series. The ANSI code for this insert is HBR D.62-QF IC328 and the ISO code is HBR D.62-QF. Verify cutter body specifications before installation to confirm pocket and screw compatibility.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the manufacturer-specified method without over-tightening, which can crack the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket for debris or wear before installing a new insert.
