The ISCAR 5604863 is a solid carbide ball nose milling insert from the BALLPLUS series, designed for high-performance milling in steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. Carrying the ANSI designation HBR D.50-QF IC328, this insert features a 0.50-inch inscribed circle and a 0.25-inch corner radius that forms the full ball nose geometry. The IC328 grade uses a PVD-applied TiCN coating over a solid carbide substrate, offering wear resistance and thermal stability in demanding interrupted and continuous cuts. The QF chip breaker promotes positive rake cutting action, reducing cutting forces on the workpiece. Licensed HVAC techs and machinists running CNC milling operations rely on consistent geometry and grade integrity for repeatable tool life.
This insert is engineered for milling applications where ball nose profiling is required, including 3D contouring, slotting, and finishing passes on ferrous and exotic alloy workpieces. The HBR D.50-QF geometry targets steel (ISO P), stainless steel (ISO M), and superalloys and titanium (ISO S) material groups. The single-sided, right-hand insert fits HCM-series cutter bodies and is retained by a screw-clamp holding method. It is suited to both roughing and semi-finish passes within its rated depth-of-cut envelope on CNC machining centers.
Designed for use with HCM-series cutter bodies. Insert style HBR D.50-QF is compatible with toolholders specified for that seat geometry. Verify cutter body seat size and screw specification before installing.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw to the cutter body manufacturer's specification listed in the toolholder documentation. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure proper geometry registration.
