The ISCAR 5604601 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the manufacturer part designation ONMU 080608-TN-MM in grade IC928. It features an octagonal shape with a neutral hand orientation, a negative rake geometry, and a T-Land cutting edge style. The insert is coated with TiAlN via a PVD process, delivering wear resistance suited to demanding milling operations. With 16 cutting edges available on a double-sided body, it offers extended tool life per insert. A corner radius of 0.0315 inches (0.80 mm) and a maximum depth of cut of 0.2170 inches (5.50 mm) define its cutting envelope. Licensed machinists and CNC toolroom technicians are the primary installers and users of this insert.
This insert is designed for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, covering ISO material codes P, M, and S. It belongs to the 16MILL series and is compatible with ISCAR cutter bodies in the F45NM and F45WG series. Typical applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and high-productivity roughing to semi-finishing passes on ferrous and difficult-to-cut materials in both job shop and production environments. The MM chip breaker geometry supports reliable chip control across this material range.
Designed for use in ISCAR 16MILL series cutter bodies, specifically confirmed compatible with the F45NM and F45WG cutter series. Conforms to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards under the designation ONMU 080608-TN-MM IC928.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician with the spindle fully de-energized and locked out per facility LOTO procedures. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the cutter body manufacturer's specified seating procedure - do not overtighten the clamping screw, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the insert pocket and screw threads for debris or damage before seating a new edge. Handle carbide inserts with care to avoid chipping cutting edges prior to use.
