The ISCAR 5603551 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for the HELIALU series HM90 cutter platform, specifically the HM90-15 cutter body family. Carrying the ANSI designation HM90 AXCR 150504R-P IC28, this parallelogram-shaped insert features an uncoated bright finish in ISCAR IC28 grade, a substrate optimized for non-ferrous metal cutting. The insert is single-sided with a right-hand cutting orientation, two cutting edges, a positive rake geometry, and a honed cutting edge style. Maximum depth of cut reaches 0.551 inches (14.00 mm), making it suitable for aggressive face and shoulder milling operations on aluminum and other non-ferrous workpiece materials. Screw-type insert holding secures the insert during high-speed passes.
This insert is intended for milling operations on non-ferrous metals, primarily aluminum, in both roughing and semi-finishing applications. The positive rake and P-style chip breaker geometry promote free cutting action and efficient chip evacuation, which is critical when milling aluminum alloys at elevated spindle speeds. Typical install scenarios include face milling, shoulder milling, and helical interpolation operations on CNC machining centers. The HM90-15 cutter series compatibility makes it a direct fit for ISCAR HM90 cutter bodies with 15 mm pocket seats. Machinists and tooling specialists working in aerospace, automotive, and general metalworking shops are the primary users.
Designed for use with ISCAR HM90-15 series cutter bodies. ANSI code HM90 AXCR 150504R-P IC28; ISO code HM90 AXCR 150504R-P. Conforms to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Ensure the cutter body is fully de-energized and the spindle is locked before seating or replacing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key specified by the cutter body manufacturer to torque the insert clamping screw — do not overtighten, as this can crack solid carbide inserts. Inspect the pocket seat and clamping screw threads for wear or debris before each insert change to maintain accurate insert positioning.
