The ISCAR 5603285 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for high-efficiency face and shoulder milling of non-ferrous metals. Manufactured to the HM90 APCR 160504R-P IC28 specification, this right-hand parallelogram insert features a positive rake geometry and a honed cutting edge for clean, low-force cutting action. The insert measures 1.0040 inches in length and 0.5040 inches in inscribed circle diameter, with a thickness of 0.1890 inches. The IC28 uncoated grade is engineered for aluminum and other non-ferrous workpiece materials where coating adhesion to the workpiece is a concern. It is held in place by a screw-clamping system and is compatible with the HM90-16 cutter series body.
This insert is intended for use in CNC machining centers and milling machines performing face milling, shoulder milling, and high-feed operations on aluminum, copper, and other non-ferrous metals. The HELIALU series designation indicates optimized geometry for aluminum alloy applications common in aerospace, automotive, and general precision machining environments. The P chip breaker style supports controlled chip formation at elevated feed rates. Maximum depth of cut reaches 0.6102 inches (15.50 mm), making it suitable for aggressive stock removal passes on non-ferrous components.
Designed for use with HM90-16 series milling cutter bodies. The ANSI code HM90 APCR 160504R-P IC28 and ISO code HM90 APCR 160504R-P can be used to verify fitment with compatible toolholders from the HM90 cutter family.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians using the appropriate Torx or hex key for the insert clamping screw. Ensure the cutter body pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Always index or replace inserts with the machine spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out, tagged-out state per facility LOTO procedures. Do not use inserts that show chipping, cratering, or excessive flank wear, as degraded edges can compromise surface finish and dimensional accuracy.
