The ISCAR 5602991 is a solid carbide milling insert in the APKT style, carrying the HM90 APKT 1003PDR IC380 designation. It features a parallelogram shape with an 85-degree included angle and a positive 23-degree rake angle, making it well suited for aggressive material removal at consistent depth. The IC380 grade is a submicron carbide substrate with a PVD-applied TiCN and TiN multilayer coating, providing wear resistance and edge stability when cutting demanding workpiece materials. The insert measures 0.266 inches in inscribed circle diameter and 0.139 inches thick, with a cutting edge effective length of 0.404 inches and a maximum depth of cut of 0.386 inches.
This insert is designed for machining superalloys, titanium, and hard materials where edge toughness and coating adhesion are critical. It seats in right-hand orientation and is held by screw clamping in compatible HM90-series milling toolholders. The PDR chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation at the cutting parameters appropriate for these difficult-to-machine material families. It is a single-sided insert with two cutting edges per insert, delivering a straightforward index and reset workflow during production or maintenance runs.
Designed for use in HM90-10 series milling cutters. Cutter series compatibility is listed as HM90-10. Conforms to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards; ANSI code HM90 APKT 1003PDR IC380.
Installation is performed by a machinist or tooling technician using the appropriate torx or hex key for the clamping screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully into the pocket and confirm the screw is tightened to the toolholder manufacturer's specification before resuming cuts. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new edge.
