The ISCAR 5601931 is a square-profile solid carbide milling insert designated XPMT 100408T-HQ in grade IC910. It carries an AlTiN coating applied via PVD process, delivering thermal and wear resistance suited to aggressive milling cuts in steel and cast iron. The insert is single-sided with four helical cutting edges, a positive rake geometry, and an 11-degree relief angle. Inscribed circle diameter measures 0.4020 inches, thickness runs 0.1620 inches, and the corner radius is 0.0236 inches (0.60 mm). Maximum depth of cut and cutting edge effective length are each 0.3150 inches. Held in place by a screw-clamp method, the insert is designed for high-productivity face and shoulder milling operations.
This insert is intended for milling steel and cast iron workpieces in both production and job-shop environments. The helical cutting edge style reduces entry shock and cutting forces, making it appropriate for light to moderate roughing and semi-finishing passes. The neutral hand orientation and positive rake geometry support a wide range of milling approaches, including ramping and shoulder milling. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in manufacturing, toolroom, and maintenance machining contexts are the primary users. The HQ chip breaker designation is optimized for chip control on P-group and K-group materials.
Compatible with ISCAR HELIQUAD series cutter bodies, including ETS, FDN, FSB, FST, SDN, SSB, E90AC, SPK, F90SP-10, and E90SP platforms. Conforms to ANSI standard XPMT 100408-HQ IC910 and ISO 13399 designation XPMT 100408-HQ. Insert size code 100408. Material grades C2, C3, and C6.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Disconnect and lock out machine power before changing inserts. Use the manufacturer-specified torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw; do not overtighten by feel alone, and refer to the cutter body documentation for fastener guidance. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before seating each new insert to ensure proper location and prevent premature edge failure.
