The ISCAR 5600047 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the ANSI designation APKT 1003PDR-HM IC20. It is a single-sided, right-hand, parallelogram-shaped insert in the HELIMILL series, designed for use in face and shoulder milling cutters. The IC20 grade is uncoated bright carbide — a C2/C3 classification suited for demanding cutting applications. The insert measures 0.4310 inches in length, 0.2640 inches in inscribed circle diameter, and 0.1400 inches thick, with a 0.0197-inch corner radius and an 11-degree relief angle. Cutting geometry is positive rake with chamfered and honed edges. It is held in the cutter body by a screw-clamp method and delivers a maximum depth of cut of 0.3860 inches.
This insert is intended for milling operations across a broad range of workpiece materials, including stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials — corresponding to ISO material groups M, K, N, S, and H. It is compatible with ISCAR HM90-10 series milling cutter bodies and is a direct fit for toolholders referencing the APKT 1003PDR-HM insert size code 1003. Typical applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and ramping operations in both production shop and job-shop environments. Designed for use with ISCAR HELIMILL series HM90-10 cutter bodies that accept APKT 1003PDR-HM inserts. Insert size code 1003 with an inscribed circle range of 0.2500 to 0.3000 inches and a length range of 0.4000 to 0.4500 inches.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Before seating the insert, clean the pocket and clamping surfaces to remove chips and debris that can cause seating error. Use the manufacturer-specified torque wrench and insert screw to secure the insert — do not overtighten by hand or with standard hex keys. Inspect the cutting edge and corner radius for chips or damage before each use; a compromised edge on hard or abrasive materials can cause rapid cutter body wear.
