The ISCAR 5598108 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert carrying the IDI0472-SG designation and IC908 manufacturer grade. Designed for the IDI-SG series modular drill platform, this tip features a 140-degree included angle with a thinned web point geometry and a slow spiral flute configuration. The cutting diameter is 0.472 inches (11.99mm) and the tip height is 0.228 inches (5.79mm). A TiAlN coating applied via PVD process provides thermal resistance and wear performance across a broad range of workpiece materials. Insert seat size is 12. The tip is held in place via a twist-locking method and is intended for licensed machinists and tool-crib professionals working with CNC drilling operations.
This replaceable tip is suited for drilling operations in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials — covering ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H. It fits into the IDI-SG modular drill body system and is appropriate for general-purpose drilling in both production machining and job-shop environments. The submicron carbide grade and PVD TiAlN coating make it particularly relevant for applications where tool life across difficult materials is a priority. This tip does not feature coolant-through capability and is intended for external coolant or dry cutting setups where the host drill body supports that approach.

Installation is performed by machining professionals or tool-crib technicians. Ensure the drill body spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a locked-out, de-energized state before changing any replaceable tip. Seat the tip fully into the insert pocket using the manufacturer-specified twist-lock engagement — do not force or over-rotate. Inspect the seating surface on the drill body for chips or contamination before installing a new tip, as debris at the interface affects runout and tip seating accuracy.
