The ISCAR 5597355 is a solid carbide uncoated turning insert with a CNGG style designation, designed for precision metal turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It features an 80-degree diamond insert shape, a 0.4 mm (0.0157 inch) corner radius, and a 0.5-inch inscribed circle. The IC07 grade is an uncoated solid carbide formulation suited for universal workpiece materials including ISO material groups M, N, and S. With a positive rake geometry and the 431 chip breaker configuration, this insert provides controlled chip formation and consistent surface finishes in finish to semi-finish turning applications. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in job shops or production environments are the primary installers.
This insert is part of the ISCAR Isoturn series and is engineered for turning operations where tight tolerances and edge integrity are critical. The CNGG geometry with clearance code N and tolerance code G makes it appropriate for finish-turning passes on steel, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys. Maximum depth of cut is 3.00 mm (0.1180 inch), placing it in the finish to light semi-finish range. It is commonly used on external diameter turning, facing, and profiling operations in both production and prototype machining environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for ISCAR Isoturn toolholders accepting CNGG-style inserts with a C insert shape code and 431 size designation. Confirm toolholder seat geometry and clamping style before installation.
Turning insert replacement is performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the manufacturer-recommended torque wrench or insert key to secure the clamping screw — do not over-tighten by hand. Inspect the insert seat and shim for wear or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper edge engagement and runout.
